Farmhouse Laundry Room Budget Makeover: $100 Room Challenge Week One

I have signed on for another $100 Room Challenge hosted by Erin of Lemons, Lavender and Laundry! If you are not familiar with the challenge you can read about it here.  For this month I have chosen my laundry room. Our laundry room has not been fully updated since my house was built in 1992 (besides new washer/dryer by previous owner and the light fixture) and needs some love.

If you have ever been to my house you have most likely not seen my laundry room. The door is kept closed because I don’t want to look at it! Laundry is my nemesis and I try to spend as little time as possible in here. I’m hoping a makeover will help to change my attitude. It’s not likely but at least it will be pretty to look at and more functional.

Are you ready to see my mess? I did not do any cleaning up for you! My washer and dryer have never been moved since we moved in 2 years ago and I do not even want to think about what is back there… Eww….

So let’s talk about the plan. There are a few positive features to the laundry room

  1. Good natural light from the window.
  2. The location. It is on the second floor across from master bedroom.
  3. That’s about it.

There are a few things I would like to change.

  1. Flooring. This hideous floral beat up vinyl has got to go.
  2. Add a washing machine drain pan. The pan is more of a need than a want as we don’t need a flood!
  3. Paint. The walls are really dingy and marked up.
  4. Functionality. I need some sort of folding countertop or table. Currently I fold clothes on my bed and I would prefer not to transfer laundry into my bedroom. Sometimes it ends up not leaving!
  5. Organization. Right now things are haphazardly thrown onto the shelves and on top of the machines. A few things, like my old Cricut machine, do not belong in this room.
  6. Make it pretty.

A few examples of what I am talking about are shown below. See the boring dingy walls? And that chevron cow print is out of style.

Messy shelves? I’ve got 3 of them!

Let us take one last before view of the room. There is not a large space to work with but I will do my best!

Thank you Lindsay! It’s going to be hard staying within the $100 budget for everything that I would like to do!

  2. You sound like me… I bring all the laundry to our room to fold, and sometimes it just sits there, never making it to its respective place. You’ve got some great ideas. Can’t wait to follow along!

    • InCharge08753 says:

Thank you Erin! My bedroom tends to be the catchall space in this house and I need to put an end to it!

  3. Wow, some challenge can’t wait to see the reveal. I think its so much fun creating a stylish laundry room

  4. I can’t see what to do for a folding space. I love pretty laundry rooms!!

  5. Least you already have shelving in there!! That’s a huge win.

    • InCharge08753 says:

Yes! The shelving is a big expense that I already have covered. I was going to modify it to stack the washer and dryer but unfortunately my husband does not agree!

  6. You’re so lucky to have a window in your laundry room! I can’t wait to see how you transform this space!

    • InCharge08753 says:

Yes! I love having the natural light in there. The only issue is at night if the light is on people can see my mess!

  7. Can’t wait to see what you do with this room! I love laundry room makeovers 🙂

  8. I need more inspiration for my laundry area. Can’t wait to see what you do with yours!
