How to Make Money Blogging Guest Post

Today I am lucky to have Cait from Cait’s Cozy Corner guest posting to share her tips on how to make money blogging. While blogging is an awesome creative outlet for me it is also nice to be compensated for your time and efforts. Thank you Cait for sharing your expertise with us!

Back when I first started blogging 7 years ago, blogging was just a way to keep track of fitness routines, write about what you were eating or doing daily and just keeping in touch with loved ones who may be far away. Today, blogging has skyrocketed and many people are wanting to make money off their blog.

In three years, I went from not knowing at all how to run a profitable side business, to helping my husband pay off student loan debt. Did you know that you could do the same thing using several different tools? I’m going to share 6 ways that you can even start to make money right now! That’s right! Today! Grab a cup of coffee and let’s dive in shall we!

1. ADS

The very first monetization strategy I used for Cait’s Cozy Corner  was putting an ad or two in my sidebar after I had been blogging for a few months. The easiest way to get started with ads is to go through an ad network like Google Adsense. Adsense and other ad networks do the work for you in that they have connected with many, many companies who want to advertise on websites, and they fill your ad spots with their ads so that you don’t have to go out and find individual companies to sponsor your blog.

2. AFFILIATES

Another monetizing strategy that I used after I had been blogging for a few months was getting involved in affiliate programs. For example, one of the most common affiliate programs you’ll see bloggers using is Amazon Associates. You can apply to their program, and if you’re accepted, you can generate an affiliate link for any product that they sell that you mention on your site. When people click your link and buy that product (or, in Amazon’s case, anything else on their site), you make a small commission. Eventually, those small payouts add up and can become a great revenue stream for your site.

3. SPONSORED POSTS

A third way to earn an income from blogging is through doing sponsored posts. Unlike affiliate programs, where payment is typically based on readers taking an action or buying a product, sponsored posts usually involve a company paying a blogger a flat fee to write a post based on their product or service.

A great way to get your feet wet with sponsored posts is by going through a media company like Pollinate or BluePrint Social. Again, these media companies act as a “middleman,” finding companies who want to sponsor blog content and matching them with bloggers who would be a good fit. Typically, you would apply to the media company and once you’re accepted, they will pass along campaigns that you can apply for individually if they would fit in with your blog’s content. Other companies you may want to check out are Massive Sway (SITS Girls) and Collective Bias (Social Fabric).

Maybe there’s a company you’d like to work with directly, though. You can always send them a pitch that details your project, how you’ll promote them, and how working with you will benefit their company. This might seem intimidating at first, but once you get your pitch down, it’s just a matter of finding the right person to send it to.

4. PRODUCTS

So far all of the monetizing strategies I’ve talked about involve working with other companies or brands to promote outside products, but one of my most favorite (and definitely the most rewarding) ways I’ve monetized my blog is through creating my own products. I love, love, love being able to help others!

Think about an area of expertise that you have that could be helpful to others or solve a problem for them. Could you package it in eBook or e-course form? Could you create printables or other electronic media? Or maybe you can create a physical product that people would like to buy. All of these methods can help to create additional income streams for your blog. Think outside the box to help your audience!

5. SERVICES

In the same vein as products, services are another rewarding method of monetizing your site. Do you have an area of expertise in which you could provide coaching? Could you offer virtual assistant services? How about web design or interior e-design services? There are people out there looking for all of these types of things, and you could be the one to provide them and add to your blog income in the process!

And if all of this blogging talk has you thinking, “I’m ready to jump into this whole blog monetization thing!”, one of the most important assets you can have at your disposal is your passion and dedication to make it work. Matt Anton can attest to the struggles of making money, and not just with blogging but creating his own website. A man who used to spend hours playing video games, now was finding a passion in website developing, learning everything  about SEO tips and how to make the most of the internet. He developed his own site, NJ SEO. They can help build a meaningful relationship with clients using social media. They also develop effective content strategies for forward thinking companies, bloggers alike.

So are you ready to jump in? I know you can do it. Remember, it takes time so stick with it and watch your blog slowly start to grow! You can do it!

Farmhouse Style Patriotic Summer Front Porch

Patriotic Summer Front Porch

This is the first house that I have owned with a true front porch. I love to style it for the different seasons. The navy blue rockers give the house a down home country feel and look great paired with Americana decor. Our family looks forward to Memorial Day and July 4th celebrations every summer and I would like my home to reflect that.

First new pillows were purchased for the rocking chairs at Tuesday Morning. Their selection of outdoor pillows were all too brightly colored or too expensive for my small budget. Instead I purchased these adorable American flag pillows for $15 each. I loved the brass star button details!

I wanted them to hold up to the elements so I purchased Scotchguard Heavy Duty Water Shield from Amazon. It is supposed to protect outdoor furniture and fabrics. This is the first time I have used this product and so far so good. We had a bad rainstorm last night and the pillows repelled the water well.

Following the directions I coated both sides of each pillow letting them dry fully before flipping them over. I wore gloves so I did not get it on my skin and used plastic bags to protect the grass.

This cute little chalk painted table remains on our porch year round and I change up the decor seasonally. It was a flea market find from NJ and I painted it with Annie Sloan chalk paint in Provence. By shopping the house I was able to save some money! The sign was left over from last summer, the flags were a Hobby Lobby clearance find and everything else I already owned.

Besides the pillows the only other thing I purchased was flowers. Costco had the lavender topiary for $20! I had to drive to two stores to find it but it was worth the hunt.

The fern was from Lowe’s and just screamed Southern front porch to me! My husband was not thrilled when he saw it as we have a whole woods full of ferns in our backyard… I could have dug some up for free. Oops!

On the front door I hung up my patriotic heart I found at Christmas Tree Shops last summer. I love that store for seasonal goodies.

I am in love with the way our front porch turned out and I can’t wait to spend time on it all summer sittin’ and sippin’.
